Default Allegheny County LTCF: employer contact

Does anyone know if they actually call your employer and disclose that you applied for a permit?

First time applicant so never been through the process.

My background is very clean so I see no issue clearing the background check, but I have a gut feeling my employer would be a little freaked out if they are contacted by the Sheriff's office.

    Any insight would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

I can only speak for York County, however, keep in mind that employment is not required to obtain your LTCF.

I work for a very large company, one that prefers that any verification go to a specific 800 number to the HR dept somewhere. Not being able to recall the number I took my app to the sheriff's office and asked about how I should complete that section. The guy said it wasn't necessary and processed the app with my employment section completely blank.

You could be unemployed or retired and still get your LTCF. Just leave it blank and tell them you don't want your employer to know your business, neither do you want your employer to get a contact from the Sheriff's Dept on any matter about you. Which is perfectly reasonable, and true.

I would leave it blank also if it concerns you. Not Allegheny Co., but Washington has never contacted my employer or any of my references.

    Just so you're aware........

It is illegal for the Sheriff to publicly disclose to anyone that you are applying or have a LTCF.

If the Sheriff should disclose that info, I would be meeting with him with my lawyer. If you happen to be fired.... I would light a fire under his ass, lawsuit wise that is

I was just used as a reference for Allegh Co. No call.

When I got my LTCF I did put down my employer. He was also my reference, the Sheriff's neighbor.

Lancaster sends a postcard that says "NOTICE OF RENEWAL FOR LICENSE TO CARRY A FIREARM"

I would have preferred an envelope

I dislike the diamond commercials, give me something useful like guns, ammo or cookware.

That's great...out there for all to see

    Also...

They are supposed to send you an application as well, not just a notice that it is time to renew.
