Default Do I have any recourse (permit issue)?

I went to pick up my non-resident permit at the Adams Co. Sheriff's Office this morning. When I arrived, I was told that the State Police system was down so they could not issue any permits.

Is there any provision in PA law for this? Am I just SOL and have to drive back up to PA?

    Thank you.

Perhaps they could take your photo and capture your signature, store them and run your PICS check when the system comes back up. Then mail you the license...wouldn't hurt to ask

That's what Washington County did when I got my LTCF. The sheriff was on vacation when I applied, so they couldn't run it until he got back. I had mine mailed to me when he got back a week later.

I asked this before I left and they said that their system could not do this.

How long ago was this? Was it before or after the capturing the photograph and signature became a state-wide requirement?

Five years ago when I applied through Centre County, I mailed the application to them with $20 and they mailed me back a permit. About a month ago I received a post card from Centre County saying that my permit was expiring in 30 days and I had to appear in person to get my permit as they could no longer issue permits by mail due to the photograph and signature requirement.

What does the sheriff being on vacation have to do with anything? It's not like he actually does anything.

I applied to Adams Co. Are you saying that once I am approved I can pick up my permit at any county I choose?

Can I just go to the PA state police and get my permit?

You pick up your "license" at the county you applied at, at the Sheriff's office you applied.
