    Default ruger LCR holster recommendations

anyone? Its a 38 special. Needs to have some form of retention. My brother-in-law just bought a bianchi that sucks ass, and has no retention. He is returning it. Remember, this gun has no hammer, double action only

Are you saying it has to have a thumb break or similar device? Or do you mean it just has to hold the revolver tightly?

no, just need a good holster for it with at least some form of retention, and yes, hold the revolver tightly. The thumb break is obviously retarded on a gun with no hammer, just need some info from people that may have this gun

Let's clarify further, I think what he was asking was do you want active retention, like a locking mechanism of some sort, or just a holster that holds into the gun well.
IWB, OWB? Concealment, open carry? Leather, kydex, some combination of the two?

Yes, that is exactly what I meant. After that was addressed, I was going to ask him the same things you are asking him now (IWB, OWB? Concealment, open carry? Leather, kydex, etc.)

It's cool, I was finishing up a long day at work at the time of my original post and probably wasn't thinking clearly. First let me say that the LCR isn't really meant for owb carry. It's more meant for iwb, ankle, and pocket carry. When I had the LCR I carried it in a desantis apache ankle holster, a desantis nemesis pocket holster, and a galco stow-n-go iwb holster. Honestly, something bigger like a sp101 or gp100 would be better for hiking. If he still wants to carry an LCR in an owb holster while hiking, then there are a few choices available that I would trust. Below are a few few examples with links.

    1) Mitch Rosen Holster

    2) Desantis Holster w/ thumb break

    3) Desantis Holster w/o thumb break

    4) Safariland Holsters (multiple styles)

    c) http://holsterfinder.safariland.com/.../Details/10223
    d) http://holsterfinder.safariland.com/.../Details/10148

    5) Raven Phantom Modular Holster

For the most part, you aren't going to find anything too different from what I mentioned above.

My LCR .38 is my "I'm not carrying a gun" gun.

With that, the holsters that I use with it are:
    OWB: Kramer horsehide belt scabbard
IWB: Garrett Industries Silent thunder IWB

Just another .02 worth for your consideration,
Good Luck to your brother in law in his search.

Galco Stinger for OWB , which I rarely do with this gun , as stated I usually pocket carry my LCR but the Stinger works well for OWB.

I have heard good things about the Mitch Rosen for the LCR as well.
