Default Thinking about PX4 caliber change

I've been lurking around some sites trying to find an answer to this question and can't quite get a definitive response. I have a Beretta PX4 in .40. I love shooting it, but I'm cheap and can't afford shooting it as much as I'd like. As such I was thinking about getting a 9mm barrel and magazine(s) for practice. To my knowledge they have the same outside diameter so it 'should' work. Beretta, obviously, does not encourage this, but are there problems with this? Has anyone else tried it? There are a couple different places to get the parts, so that's not really a problem. Thanks.

I guess you need to find out 100% for sure if the have the same outside diameter. Know anybody that has one in 9mm? I do, but we aren't exactly neighbors. I'm sure you could have someone here measure a 9mm barrel for you. I don't have anything to measure accurately with. I don't think a tape measure will do in this situation.

I'll do that. Just got back from vacation so we'll see how soon I'll be able to get around to it. In the mean time, if anyone reading this can measure for me I'd appreciate it.

pull a thin piece of string around barrel then measure length of string with ruler? think that'd work? i have the 9mm, if the outside barrel is what needs to be measured, ill try that and get back to ya.

The barrel Dia. is different so you need to swap uppers and mags.
    I would save a by a complete 9mm
