Gun carry along the state border in a boat.
I have a boat. Not a big boat, just a "go have fun on a river/lake" kind of boat.
Often when on the boat, there is a firearm of some type stored on the boat. If you have seen some of the boat ramps out there, you would understand why.
How does one then navigate the Delaware River? Generally, one must stay to the right side of the channel. When heading downstream on the Delaware, that would be the Phila side. Heading upstream, that would be the NJ side. That is, if you can even be 100% sure where the borderline is, as it is not always the middle of the river.
Clearly I do not want to be in NJ with a gun. I also do not like to be out in the boat without protection. What can I do? Does anyone here boat on the Delaware?

Re: Gun carry along the state border in a boat.
The state line is pretty much split down the middle, although there are areas where line is closer to the Jersey side. Your best bet is to hug the Pa. side. Be mindful that NJSP marine units patrol the river and do come on the Pa. side. Also avoid any of the Islands except for Tinicum Island. NJSP marine has a tendency to overreach their jurisdiction when it comes to these Islands and the river in general. Get an up to date chart of the river. It will show state lines. Happy boating!

Troll,
thanks for the links. I found other links within those threads.
I will file the topic "carry on the Delaware" under "bad idea".
It just means I will have to research the boat ramps a little better and choose the nicer ones.

Suggestion: Camo your boat and add a bigger engine so you can scoot faster to the Pa. Side of the dam river..whenever you see Motor Patrol Boat painted w/ N.J. Colors

As you can see, make sure you read the other threads.
NJSP marine division can come all the way over to the PA shore.
The one scary topic is what happens if you break down, and float onto the NJ shore.

You obviously know NOTHING about small boats. They are completely reliable and never ever ever break down. and if you believe that, I have a bridge for sale.
More likely for me, someone on the boat would say "lets go visit the aquarium" or "the battleship" or "that cute riverfront restaurant".

Re: Gun carry along the state border in a boat.
I can't say how they would handle a firearm in a boat on the river, but I did have an encounter with the Marine Unit of the NJSP last summer near Wildwood last summer. I have to say that the one I dealt with was professional and friendly even though he was on a proverbial fishing expedition asking me questions. I was in violation of nothing, but he saved me from getting into a real bad jam (I was heading to an area of uncharted sand bars).
