1911 barrel and guide rod?
Is there a difference or benefit of a 1 or 2 piece guide rod in a 1911? I've seen both styles and just curious why the difference.
I've also been seeing more bull barrels without a bushing in 1911s, again any benefit for this?Your web muscles do not frighten me.

No. I've been seeing advertisements in different catalogs for 1 and 2 piece guide rods for the Government model and was curious if one is better than the other.

Re: 1911 barrel and guide rod?
The two piece guide rod down side is that they lossen up during firing sometimes the upside is that you can take the 1st part off during disaseemble making it easier to turn the bushing. The one piece guide rods are better because they don't lossen up and you will find them on the better guns. This setup was to have smoother spring action with no side way motion adding to accuracy and more controlled pistol.
I didn't know this until I came here.
The truth be told though I have three 1911s with the guide rods and two without, I see no noticeable difference in accuracy or control. This seems more a function of bushing barrel lockup, good sights and good grips.
Personally I still like a extended guide rod in a 1911. Bc they come on Wilsons, ED Browns and Les Baers most times. Who are we to argue against that.Last edited by Neko456; June 27th, 2012 at 10:20 AM.

Re: 1911 barrel and guide rod?
I saw an improvement with my Norinco 1911 when I added a 2-piece rod in place of the spring/plunger arrangement. But each gun will respond differently.
Takedowns are a bigger PITA though because now I need an allen wrench to separate the guide rod to take the slide assembly apart. But its not like I shoot/clean it a lot to really worry about it. It might be issue to some overly anal folks who keep their guns super clean.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

I love the full length guide rod of my Rock Island. As for the bushings and bull barrels, it's simply a matter of personal preference. I like the bushings better...

Added a progressive spring rate Ed brown spring and a one piece guide rod toy Charles daly and could tell a difference.
Most would argue it is all personal preference though.Emergency Medicine prevents natural selection

If its more about personal preference then I'll stick with factory specs. I have no issue with the 1 piece. The only reason I'll swap to a 2 piece is if I add a compensator and it requires a 2 piece. Thanks for the input.
