Traveling through Jersey question
I know this topic has been beat to death, but here goes. If you are travelling through the PRNJ carrying a pistol in compliance with the Federal law and you get stopped for a traffic infraction, are you required to immediately notify the police officer that you are transporting the firearm ?
Relationships between men and women can be difficult - but not impossible.

Re: Traveling through Jersey question
I'm unaware of any such requirement. Of course there's always the issue if the police ask about weapons in the car and whether you respond truthfully, prevaricate, or remain silent. In any case I've never came across a statutory duty to notify,

Re: Traveling through Jersey question
FYI you are as likely to run into trouble in NYS as you would in NJ.

Re: Traveling through Jersey question
I not aware of any systemic abuse of 926A in NJ. Here is what the NJSP says about FOPA transport:
http://www.njsp.org/about/fire_trans.html
With that said understand that in NJ, like Pa, possession of a handgun in a vehicle without a recognized CCW is prima facie evidence of a violation of state firearm laws with certain exemptions that require proof of the possessor. True NJ police do encounter such firearms less frequently in the course of their duties and they may be more inclined to suspect illegality.
If you're referring to Revell or Aitkens - both those cases were legitimate busts IMO.IANAL

Re: Traveling through Jersey question
there are cases going back many years, from the late 80s on,. just because you are not aware, does not mean its smart to say anything...right?
and the NJSP says a lot of crap, I hear their lies every time the news shows a NJSP blabbing about HPs are made to go thru cops vests.
When transiting ANY antigun state... be it NJ, Mass, or whatever, keep your gun properly transportation stored, out of sight, and keep your mouth SHUT is the best advice, if stopped.Last edited by JayBell; July 11th, 2012 at 04:59 PM.
