    Default colt frontiershooter six

OK I have an old colt 1st generation frontier shooter six pistol

I got the pistol from a relative that passed away

I am looking for help on how to tell if it has an original barrel

I was told it was, but recently, I showed this pistol to a dealer, and they told me its not original, he said so based on the stampings on the barrel, claiming a Original barrel would have less info on the barrel than what is there

SO< anyone know how to tell for sure if this is true, and or what info is supposed to be on an original barrel??
I know this pistol was re blued AT colt in the 60's, person I got it from, there friend worked at cold and did it for them as a favor, so I know that changes value, but was told other wise its all original, so??
I am now confused and not sure it is what I was told!

well, thanks, and I can post pic's if that helps

based on the information that youve posted that is not the original barrel or it could be the original barrel.

seriously dude. pix? of course pix would help.

you also might want to find a colt forum.

PaBimmerGuy , thanks for the help?? if thats what you call your reply!

I didn'ty just post pictures, as I was told there was a certian address and or info on a barrel to determine the the possible yr of a barrel

so was looking for a person that knew that information without me needing to post a picture, as apicture I felt would just lead to guessing , and not an answer from a person that knew facts on these single action pistols, as there is a huge difference in worth on original and replaced barrels

nfafan , Thanks for the links and info

and yes I did join a few more colt /singal action forums and did post my question there too

I posted here to see , as I know there are lots of good guys with tons of info on this site as well
Plus being from PA, I posted, in case, maybe if someone knew, and possi9bly was interested in making me an offer on the pistol, maybe I would let it go or trade it for something I have more interest in as well!
    But thanks

    youre welcome.

im not a colt collector but i have dozens of reference books on guns. if you had posted pictures or at least the text on the the barrel i would have gone down to my basement and rummaged around in my books for some information.

your post was akin to going to a car forum and saying i have an old chevy does anyone have an idea of what it is worth.

when i post on a car forum it give make model year transmission and engine before even posting the question.

sorry if you think that im harsh but thats the way it is.

No I didn't think you were harsh, just a little bit of a bust on me that's all
I did give some detailed info, on the exact model and like's

so if this help here is some more onfo on it and a few pic's

first it was made in 1884, based on serial number, second it is a 44 40 caliber, a 7 1/2 in barrel, and again its a "Colt Frontier Six Shooter"

    here are a few picture's
sorry there not the best, couldn't get the camera to focus for better close up's, and then the darn battery died trying.

I can e mail better closeup/zoomed in if you would like to Pm me a e mail address, or maybe copy and pase and zoom in to see

if there is something you want a picture of let me know and will try again to get exactly what pic of what is needed to help

Sure enough LOOKS like a replaced barrel. i would expect the original one to have the same patina as the frame

of course i am far from knowledgeable on the subject of colt SA revolvers.

well the frame is case colored, and not just blued, so NO the barrel shouldn't look like the frame!

barrel is replaced, and the grips are redone. this was an older restoration years ago. still has value, just not as much as an original one.

Ok how do you know this?

and what would a ball park value be then, if this is the case

I know it was re blued back in the 60's, but do think grips are original, seen a few like models with almost identical grips so??
    and thanks
