Default Colt 1911 Preferences & Opinions

I have an opportunity to purchase a 1972 Colt Series 70 for $950.00 which looks to be in excellent condition with minimal wear. I'm torn between that and a new series 70 which would cost about $75.00 more.

For about $!00.oo less I could get the 1991 Series which has a Series 80 firing system. http://www.coltsmfg.com/Catalog/Colt...991Series.aspx I'm leaning towards the new series 70 - the specific model is O1970A1CS. Suggestions and opinions are welcomed. Thank you

Nothing wrong with any of them. I would choose the original 70 series personally but if you do not care about the money then go for the new one.

I have a series MK IV seried 70 since new in 1971. It hat the reverse taper barell withe the "fingers" bushing. With thousands of rounds through it I have never had a problem. A new gun is just a new gun but the older ones in good shape are getting harder to find every day.

I would go with the original series 70, if in original and good condition, it has collectors value. With regard to the 1991, I never cared for the HUGE 1991 roll mark on the side of the frame where the ramant pony used to be, but that is just my opinion.

I'd go with the 72 if it appears to be in good condition and well machined.

OR, have you considered a new XSE? You can catch them on GB in your price range. They have much better sites than the models you posted, typically Novak rear and Colt front.

"X is what percentage of Y?" Divide the first number by the second, multiply the answer by 100. Add a percent sign. Think.

I would recommend the new Series 70.

If the 1972 Colt has a "B" preceding the last two digits of the serial number, it was made during a time when Colt was having serious labor disputes with its hourly workforce and quality purportedly suffered.

I own a "B" Colt that was customized by Wilson's and it runs fine but since you have a choice, I would go with a recent manufacture.

I'd also shy away from the Series 80 due to the FP lock.

The new one for me, without even thinking about it.
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

The Series 80 FPS ruins the trigger in my opinion. I'll take Series 70.
