Default The "Kalashnikov" or "Glock" of PUMP shotguns?

What would you guys consider to be the "Kalashnikov" or "Glock" of the PUMP shotgun world?

When I say the "'Kalashnikov' or 'Glock' of the Pump shotgun world" I am primarily speaking with respect to three characteristics of the aforementioned firearms, namely

    1) Their unbelievable reliability to do their (intended) job every time

    and

    2) The very LOW maintenance required to keep each of the aforementioned working

    and

    3) The extreme durability of the guns and their ability to nearly match or even exceed the lifespan of many of their users.

Given the above clarifications, which pump shotgun(s) would you say is fit to be called the "Kalashnikov" or "Glock" of the pump shotgun world? Put another way, if we were to play and analogies game and the question went something like,

"X is to pump shotguns as the Kalashnikov is to semiautomatic rifles" or "X is to pump shotguns as Glocks are to semiautomatic pistols", which pump shotgun would you say should replace "X"?

When answering, remember once more that I am looking for a comparison based on the three dimensions outlined above, i.e. reliability, LOW MAINTENANCE (something I am particularly curious about), and durability.

Furthermore, I request that speculations about the merits of this question or the questioner (i.e. me) be reserved for another thread. Likewise for any negative comments, impressions, or attitudes that you may have to share regarding Kalashnikovs and Glocks (I have only used these two firearms for a basis of comparison because of the widespread agreement that they are very reliable, durable, and low maintenance weapons).

Looking forward to learning from your knowledge and insights.

    Thanks in advance.

Look no further than the Remington 870. It fits all of the comparisons quite well.

    ^^^This^^^

I have an 870 and love it. You can't go wrong and you can probably find one in great shape cheap.

That being said, try to get your hands on a bunch of different makes and models(if you have time and patience). Get an idea of how to feel to you and what you like about each one vs the other.

    +1 for the Remington 870

Very easy to take completely apart if you do feel the need to clean it. Plus they can be modified to take on almost any task. Home defense, clay shooting, zombie killing, hunting....what else would you need to do?

    Is there a difference between a Mossberg 500 and a "Mosserbg 500 a1"?

Furthermore, anyone else who thinks that the Mossberg also meets the criteria I outlined in my initial post?

I'll stick with my 25 year old Mossburg 500A1
Guns don't kill people, it's mostly the bullets.

Mm something I just thought of: Winchester 1897, also known as the 1897 Trench Gun. Plenty of those still around and working, despite last being made in 1957 I believe. They still made over 1 million of them, and they were made to last and designed to a much higher strength than was needed.

I'd think the fact that there are still plenty of functional models from before 1900 would be a testament to the reliability. Not the cheapest out there by any means though.
