    Default Sig P228

I just picked up a gently used P228, non-railed, for $479. I can't believe my luck, I just went to the shop to meet a guy to buy a knife from him. I wandered into the store just to browse, I saw the pistol in the case and the rest is history. Problem is, it came with two 10-round magazines and one 20-round magazine from a P226. I would like to get a 15-round magazines for it, any idea where I can find them? Will a P229 9mm magazine fit in a P228?

Great find! I think the 228 is an outstanding carry gun and it is quite sexy!

That's a very good price from a LGS if it's in really nice condition. Sig made 229 15rd 9mm mags will NOT work in your gun, they only fit in the wider frame of the E2 and newer 229's. The Sig 13rd 9mm, Mec-Gar 15rd 9mm, Sig super capacity 17rd 9mm, and Mec-Gar hi-cap 18rd 9mm mags, however, will work just fine in your gun. Have your choice of mags here:

Thanks for the info, I actually called Sig and they said the P229 mags would work fine in the P228. I didn't mention capacity to the CSR, I guess that would make a difference. I'll get a Mec-Gar from Top Gun unless someone wants to trade me one for two 10-rd. P228 mags in the classifieds.

Np, I'm surprised they didn't mention that the new Sig 9mm mags are the only ones that won't work in the 228. When Sig redesigned the 229 starting with the "E2" series, they ditched the thinner 9mm frame and started producing the .40, .357, and 9mm models all on the same frame. That allowed a wider magazine in the 9mm model, and the bump from 13rds standard to 15.

Congrats on a great purchase. I love my 228.

Top Gun is one of my preferred vendors but they have a flat rate $10 shipping so if you're just buying a few mags it stings a little. Other vendors I use are CDNN and Greg Cote. Greg is very well known on sigforum. I linked to his MecGar page for Sig. He has the 15rd mags in blue and nickel as well as the 18rd mags. I don't really care for the 18rd mags as they aren't flush fit. I would highly recommend the MecGar mags for the 228.

The newer 229 E2 mags are actually labeled as such so there's less confusion.

I buy Mec-Gar 228 mags and use them in my 9mm 229 so seems like you should have no problems using 229 mags in a 228.

The newer E2 specific 229 mags are these:

    SIG SAUER FACTORY P229-1 15 RD 9MM MAG-229-9-15-E2
Sig Sauer P229-1 9mm 15 round E2 style flush fit magazine MAG-229-9-15-E2. Fits newer P229 and P229 E2 pistols with wider tapered P229-1 magazine...

The Sig P-226 magazine (15 Round) will work very well in the P-228. Also
a mag adapter is available to make it flush with the magazine well.
