Default OC at Pittsburgh Arts Festival at Point State Park

So as every year brings, once again the arts festival took center stage in Downtown Pittsburgh and Point State Park. I like to get down there a couple of times every year and this time was no different as I perused the aisles of art on 3 different days. Its good to go the first weekend and the last weekend as the exhibits and vendors change.

Anyways, as usual I am open carrying my 1911 and on the first day I here the ever so not quiet "whispers" by some point out to others that "that man has a gun". What I took as a good sign was that more often than not I heard the reply be something along the lines of "so? Its legal and he's not hurting anybody, mind your own business".

Of course not everyone was so easily deterred. I had met up with a friend and his pregnant wife near the entrance of the park as I was enjoying some carnival food and as I was speaking to the wife my friend tells me that someones speaking about me behind me to a cop. I didn't hear the conversation because I was speaking about baby stuff but he gave me the rundown. Basically this anti in all his "righteous" fury storms up to the cop, points me out and says "that man has a gun". The cop looks over and says "so?" At which point the anti got irate and said "what? you're not going to go over and do something about it?" The cop was like "hey, he's well within his rights and I see no reason to bother him". At which point the anti stomps off.

Bought a few knick knacks, some art, a couple of vendors from out of state asked about permit requirements and so on so I gave them the overview.

All in all a great event as always with no direct negatives to me and a whole lot of positives to go around to the LEO's and the citizenry that are finally getting it.

    Hearts and minds.

Dude that's awesome and exactly how it should be. Well, not the anti, but everything else. We definitely live on the more gun friendly side of the state, and for that I am thankful.

Anyways, kudos for being out there exercising you're rights. rep inbound!

Sounds like a great encounter: anti see gun...tells cop...cop says so what...anti storms off. KEWL!

You missed your chance to be our preemption test case against the DCNR open carry ban in state parks! Maybe next time...

I thought of that. The state park rangers had a booth there and I passed by it a couple of times (not purposely trying to draw their attention but it was on my way from points a & b) and they didn't make any fuss about it. If they didn't see that I was armed I'm not gonna go run up to their booth and start waving my pistol at em saying "whatdya think about this right here?"

I am actually a little suprised you didnt get 100 MWAG calls. I know several ladies (one is my wifes cousin) that set up stands there every year and are extremely liberal. They think only cops and the militay should own guns. They bust my balls everytime they see me carrying. Which is everytime i see them.

I'm "extremely liberal" (probably way more than those little old ladies) and I have absolutely no issues with your choice and right to open carry.

    Okay, maybe I'm just weird.

    Some sort of self-contradictory nut-case.

And I'm still voting for Obama.

Not everyone fits into Box R or Box L.
