AR varmint/kit questions
I would like to piece one together ..... Which I want to do
Or
Maybe find a used one with'in my budget ....... Any PA shops that could fit this bill as in used would also be welcomed to PM me
It will and has to be on a budget don't laugh of $700.00 ......
I understand it won't be world class but I am sure and will probably out shoot me ...
I have above average knowledge of firearms but I don;t know all the abrevations .....
So ..........
If you don't mind a few questions ..... as the title states I would like a heavy barrel
with going to a heavy barrel would you do it IF it's your only AR .... What I own now is as a hunter are from squirrels to deer to birds are in my collection
Where do you think the money sould be spent (triggers are out of the budget)
The most important item
Stainless or chrome moly ....
1-9 or 1-8 twist w/SS ......
No fluted? ... lose weight and lose accuracy = more money?
It will be a flat top as I have a optics and mounts ......
I am looking at ...... I have read all that I could find as far as reveiws ..... Seems that the newer reviews seem to get better with both of these kits

I am leaning towards this one

Re: AR varmint/kit questions
the budget constraints might inhibit this a bit...
what type of ammo would you be using? (that would determine the best twist more than anything else)
personally, i prefer a 1:8 ss isonited barrel. but isonite/nitriding isn't all that cheap.
i have no experience with either of those kits. i would look into which buffers they use/come with, feed ramps, and etc.Last edited by kimura; March 31st, 2012 at 08:44 PM.

Re: AR varmint/kit questions
Try theese:
mapartsinc.com
24 inch varmint kit-$575
http://mapartsinc.com/productsDetail.asp?id=1
kb-mfg.com
pretty much the same thing as above-$535
http://kb-mfg.com/index.php?main_pag...&products_id=1
rguns.net has complete uppers for sale as well, the last one i ordered from them was on my doorstep 3 days later.
With all of the above, all you would need is a stripped lower, usually around $85 for a Palmetto State Armory one. With just a little mechanical skill, the lowers are fairly simple to put together. All of the uppers come headspaced already. Add in shipping ($20-$30), and your looking at $650-$700.
Enjoy it

Re: AR varmint/kit questions
I have heard to STAY AWAY from model 1 sales. I have had no experience with them, but I was considering them for a build and I heard tons of reviews about sub par parts, bad finishes, bad customer service, etc. I could be wrong though. I am just repeating what people have told me. Does anyone here have any experience with them?

Re: AR varmint/kit questions
Performance that can hit a plate at 500 yrds on the best ammo (after shoving differt suf down it's throat)on a REAL good day but good out to 250-300 with most shots in the 80-150 range
Seems most use the same manufactured parts E.R.Shaw ?? for barrels that I am looking at and the rest of the parts looks genaric ....
http://kb-mfg.com/index.php?main_pag...products_id=75
Heard that too and this is what they have .....
http://www.model1sales.com/index.cfm...category_id=79
So it looks like it has to do with assembly ..... ???
How bout this set up ..... Heard same bout them when they both (Model 1 and AK (ak: Blackthorn) ) were start up in business
Seem to be getting better reviews as of late
But fletch is on the money for being a low budget build ....... (Just a little back ground I can take a hog down with a rem 700 adl 25-06 w a 3/9 40mm out too 170 ...... ON a GOOD day ) ......
Now if I start to go to the better name uppers and LPK's I kinda get out of my budget real quick ...........

Re: AR varmint/kit questions
Is this a bad Idea ........ Are there no lower budget AR owners out there that could chime in ....... Don't be scared ...... I want a shooter thats better than me but on a budget of well now its $600 ...... I have gotten my lower from a PAFAO member and I have a 3x9x40 ........ Do the actions work right?Rounds don't feed well?Barrel burned up after 100 rds? ........ only three guys with opinions .....
I should have marked this PORN and I would have gotten more looks ....LOL

Now that you have a lower I'd say this would fit your needs. Only thing you would have to do is contact them to see if it comes with a BCG, b/c honestly I have no idea. They're CS is decent and got back to me asking about feed ramps within 24hrs.
If I can FINALLY get freakin started building, I'd help you out. However I still need to pick up a work bench so as of this moment I can't build anything.
