    Default BI-POD MODIFIED&(TRL Pics)

(On page two are the travel trailer pics)

A few months ago, I posted a thread with pictures, of my $21 homebuilt bi-pod. Well, my wife raised my monthly allownace and I am back to tinkering.

I modified my bi-pod into a tri-pod. It cost another $10.50----And the thing works.

The tri-pod is adjustable from 24" sitting / kneeling to 56" for standing. It adjusts for any desired height and for uneven ground.

This tri-pod is for use on low recoil firearms. I would not shoot my .270 with accuracy loads and 100 grain bullets off of the tri-pod.
Another caution ; don't use it as a gun rest---I keep my .204 sitting on the permanent Harris bi-pod, ON THE GROUND. Remember this is a one hand on the tri-pod handle and the shooting hand on the firearm. The pictures that you see, the .204 is on the rifle rests, are a demonstration ONLY.
Pictures as follows: Click on the thumb pics to enlarge.
    1) A picture of the Winchester Shooting Stick. $10 at WalMart, need three.
    2) The tri-pod collapsed to a ver light 24 inches.
    3) The tri-pod at 24 inches with the .204 mounted for demonstration.
    4) The tri-pod at 56 inches with the .204 mounted for demonstration . The 56" ia good out to about 125yds--It has a slight wobble. I think if I drive the end stake type legs into the ground farther, a 200 yard stander is possible (I will find a solution) No, you can not have my groundhog doggy in this picture. When I start scouting for chucks in February, if doggy goes 1/2 way down the hole, I know somebody is home and make a note of it for the spring---He is my secret weapon ! ! !----Also, my linear note pad is gone---I am and will be using the Range Card supplied in another thread by TOMCAT for my notes ! ! !
    Back on topic:
    5) A top view of the hardware used to make the tri-pod. Also, the thing breaks down into 5 basic parts and hardware, but I have attched an old backpack strap for carrying. The thingie weighs close to nothing.
ANY questions fire away. I will try to help if interested.

I know what you did A-5. You got a DNA sample from 'DOGGY'---Now my secret weapon has been exposed.

You pitted yourself up against a TRAINED, ATTACK GROUNDHOG, covert in a dog costume.

I don't believe you got away unscathed---He is trained to go after your, UH UH ! ! ! Trying to be polite---Has your voice gone up a couple of Octaves.

If so, he latched on to your TARGET---OOOOOPS ! ! ! Plural, TARGETS.

^^^ This.I agree with A5.Looks simple enough to build, and inexpensive enough to give a try.
Fossil if you shortened the hardware between the tripod legs,do you think it would make it more stable for something with more recoil ?

Default TELL YOU HAT I AM GOING TO DO.

    Hey A-5 & Grumpy:

I will take 3 rounds that are accuracy loaded for my .270. These will be shooting 100 grain bullets.

I never redline my loads, but shoot the best load to print 100yd one holers.

I will not touch the tri-pod hardware----Leave it where it is.

1st shot off of the tri-pod, will be at 24" above the ground.
2nd shot will be at 30" above the ground.
3rd shot will be at 36" above the ground.

I will report back with stability, total control of my .270, or lack of control (SAFETY) and any expected or unexpected results or problems.

    Give me a few days------fossil

I made a nice sturdy set of shooting sticks from stuff at the local tractor supply company. Bought two fiberglass electric fence poles, $1.99 each, and a bag of castrating bands , $3 and change for 100. Held the two poles together and slid 4 bands around both about 8" down from the top. Took a 5th band and had it run vertical between the two poles to clasp down on the four bands. Have one band on the bottom of one rod. When I'm done shooting. Put the one ban on the bottom around both poles and now I got some great walking sticks. I wrapped the top 8" of the poles with some camo form self adhering tape as a better grip for my hands and for the guns stock. Finally painted the poles or green with some left over paint I had. Total cost was somewhere around $7. Works well when sitting in a whatachair out in the fields.
Guns don't kill people, it's mostly the bullets.
