Need a trigger job done on a 642

Hello Friends,

I just acquired a new-to-me S&W 642, an Airweight .38 Spl J-frame. Airweight refers to the gun's weight, not the trigger pull! I would like to investigate the possibility of getting this trigger to work a little easier with a lighter pull, something a little less than the team of oxen required now!

Any suggestions or pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah, it has a pretty hefty trigger pull. It only has 55 rounds through it, so I expect it will smooth out a bit as you shoot it more, but third-party springs will definitely help reduce the weight.

I thought the same thing when I was contemplating doing my 1911. Now, it is just as easy as cleaning a gun. Still, if you don't feel comfortable, don't let a hacker work on your trigger. There are so called gun smiths that will make you have to send your gun to a real trigger guy, anyway, so maybe best to do that in the first place. If you can find someone like that in your area, cool, but to send a gun by ground to a competent smith is well worth the few extra $$ you spend sending it.

Im on my phone now with poor service. I followed along with a youtube video by apex. Search apex j-frame or something similar. The rebound slide spring compression was the hardest part. You can buy a tool for it but it is not required. When I did mine it was the first time I cracked the case on a revolver and was a bit intimidated. Dont be, it was not that bad. I will post the link to my post and the video when I can get on computer.
