Angry Why do people participate in gun buy backs??

This was news from Chicago, but shows how no consideration is given to VALUE of items turned in. Seems almost like politicians are taking advantage of people during bad economic times....

    TEXT:
    CHICAGO—
More than 5,500 guns were taken off of Chicago streets during the city's buy-back program on Saturday.

23 churches participated in the turn-in, where people were encouraged to hand over their firearms with no questions asked.

People who did bring guns were rewarded with a $100.00 MasterCard gift card.Replica and BB-guns were also accepted in exchange for a $10.00 MasterCard gift card.

The final collection included several large, military-grade machine guns.

The program was so popular this year that police ran out of the gift cards. Many people will have to come back this week to get their reward.

The buy-back program has collected more than 23,000 guns to date.

23,000 guns turned in, probably 23,000 different reasons.

I really doubt that anyone who legally owns a military grade machine gun would let it go for $100. There aren't very many guns worth under a hundred, so I hope a lot of them were broken beyond repair.

My response to another thread with the same topic. This is the conversation I imagine going on between a couple of criminals upon hearing about the gun buyback.

    1. There's this great new program, $100's for every gun.

    2. Really, no kidding how does it work?

    1. Welllllll you know that guy you shot last week and weren't sure how to get rid of the gun? You can give it to the cops, they give you $100's and destroy the gun for you. No questions asked. It's great.

    1. So, here's what we will do, you know that guy down the street, the guy we see with the guns all the time on his way to the range. We will break in tonight and take that fools guns, it will be like taxes, he works hard to buy the guns, we come along, take the guns and the government gives us $100's. Aint America great!

    2. Yep sure is. Only in America are honest people treated like criminals and us crooks get rewarded for doing what we do best. God bless America. Land of opportunity.

Hey, it explains why people participate in a gun buyback.

Are there a lot of NON-military-grade machine guns?

The Chicago media would probably describe those as assault rifles.

I don't think criminals participate in most gun buy backs. I think most of it is old widows who bring in their husbands Superposed that has a little rust because they have absolutely no idea what it is or what it's worth. Makes me cry.

I have a bunch of old worthless gun parts I've been saving for one in Lancaster I might as well make something on them I would just throw them out anyway. I'll take their money and buy more gun stuff.

One day I will meet someone. This someone will bring up the fact that a AR-15 or AK-47 clones are "military grade machine guns", or say that my AR is of such category. On that day I will need a bag of ice cause they will have broken my hand with their face.

I hate these "omg it is a mil grade MG, why do you have that, you need a permit, your a bad person..." people.
