ar build cost effective?
I've been shopping around for an ar but came across the possibilities of building one. Is it cost effective? How much can I look at spending for a basic build?

Re: ar build cost effective?
id say $650 and up depending on what bells and whistles you want
when you buy a complete AR from a store you are charged a extra 11% excess tax

Re: ar build cost effective?
Yeah about $614 from Del Ton for the usual configurations. Full blown sub .5moa gun with killer brake and match trigger for $1200.....or under.
I taught Chuck Norris to bump-fire.

Re: ar build cost effective?
what can you say about the quality of the del-ton rifle? I have no other perpose for this gun except plinking so it really doesnt need to be too fancy.

Re: ar build cost effective?
It's what I built. Most of the components are from other companies anyways and the parts that are made by Del-Ton seem to be good quality. Personally, after shooting it I'm not a huge fan of the trigger compared to the RRA 2 stage but I couldn't afford it at the time but I do see a trigger upgrade in the future. For a plinking rifle, it's hard to beat.

Re: ar build cost effective?
If you exclude the tax stamps, suppressor and optic.
lower $95
LPK $55
grip 30
upper $95
rail $95
FG $15
VM mag block $150
bolt $150
CH $17
stock $65
barrel (3 lug) $52
$819 + shipping and transfer
There is no way you can find a similar setup for even close to that.

Re: ar build cost effective?
CMMG has "bargain bin" ar-15's that appear to be basically brand new kit guns for 570 over at arfcom...throw in 15 for shipping and whatever your FFL charges and you're looking at about 600 (plus 5-10 for ffl charges) and then you're good to go.
If you cruise the arfcom equip exchange long enough you might find used parts in good shape for much less.
Im going to go the one component per paycheck route probably...build it over time.
I just want the receiver / mags before the election for sure.
