Re: When to reapply for LTCF
Apply now. Who knows what may come up that could have the sheriff's office tied up over the next few weeks.
I would apply immediately to give them time to process it properly. My procrastination would be no justification to expect them to rush through the process.

Re: When to reapply for LTCF
As I recall you can renew 60 days before expiration. But I have no source to back that up.
As others have said the maximum it legally should take is 45 days.
Personally I would re-apply now.

Re: When to reapply for LTCF
I would wait until the month of expiration. The expiration of the renewal will not "match" the current one and will be 5 yrs from the date of issue. So if it is issued today, the expiration will be 06.06.17 so technically you would "lose" some time on the current one.
But that's just me.

Re: When to reapply for LTCF
Just out of curiosity, has the sheriff sent you a renewal application as he or she is required to do within 60 days of expiration, per 18 Pa.C.S. § 6109?
I am not a lawyer. Nothing I say or write is legal advice.

Re: When to reapply for LTCF
You can renew the day after you receive your LTCF,
But that would be a waste of money.
By law, they have to issue or deny your application within 45 days.
So... Submit your application 46 days before expiration of you want.
If your LTCF does expire, you are covered for 6 additional months past expiration anyways
