$600 is a great price if it is in original condition, i.e. not refinished, not mismatched... caveat emptor!

its ruined, cant be repaired. send it to me, ill put it to good use. ive been using them upside down to hold q-tips in the mag well on the sink. i promise i wont put it in my safe and keep it forever on top of shooting the crap out of it.

If it's truly all original - parts and finish - and even with a shot-out barrel and thin/average finish, it's worth twice that price so "fair" is a matter of opinion I suppose. If it's a gun shop asking that price, grab it. If it's a friend, you might pony up a bit more.
Original condition WWII vintage 1911A1s are steadily climbing in price. I just watched a run-of-the-mill late war Remington Rand sell on Gunbroker last night for $1600 shipped.
