    Default Makarov

Geez...on another thread somebody mentioned a Makarov. I replied back with something with a half serious hafl funny type of comment. But then......I went to my safe and dug into the back and found that Makarov I mentioned.....hmmmm...still feels good....like it was never broke in after god knows how many rounds and torture. So, now I'm wanting to go plink with it again after a very long rest in the safe behind custom 1911's, High Power, custom revolvers.....poor little thing was all alone, last in line behind the smithed out "snob guns" on the handgun shelf. I'm going to show some love back to the little Mak.......

Hmmmmm, "honey, did we pay the mortgage yet?....I want to buy a couple boxes of 380acp....it's a little pricey for whatever reason".

Okay....who else has a Mak in need of love, or is currently being loved at the range more often?

You got a .380 Mak? I have five Mak eaters, all in 9x18. Russky civilian Mak, P64, PA63 and 2 CZ82s . All well loved.

Yep. It's a Baikal IZH-70. I really do love it...ton's of fun and pretty dang accurate. The sites are like knock off Bo-Mars (rear anyway, the front is a very sharp pimple). I forgot how good they feel in the hand, and how fun they are to shoot. I need to lube her up and let her spit more often. I'm searching for bulk 380 this weekend!

Originally yes......but to appeal to non-commies I guess they imported in 380. Mine was imported to Big Bear Arms in Dallas Texas. I heard there are conversions to either caliber, and these Maks have a big following?....I just got mine for training reasons.....but found it was a really neat little weapon and FUN!

Thanks I will......just another thing the PAFOA has given me.....re-kindling a old flame!

I love this place!...it's like the old Calgon commercial:

    "PAFOA...take me away!...."

IM glad I could re-spark your interest.

For those with a 9x18mak, they make a barrel press and 380 kits, though theyre getting harder to find. There are also .22 kits for the hardcore ethusiast.

Makarov.com has lots of advice on them though.

Most people say to add the hogue grips for it (polymer, and then slide a handall on it). Youll notice at that point most of the "bite" will go away. This has less "bite" to me than a kel tec does.

The slide is basically already "melted" so its great in and out of the holster.

The biggest downfall of the mak is it's magazine release system and it's sights...but consider it's age.

Ive used a bit of paracord tied to a belt loop and then through the mag release as a way to speedily release the mag and tether the weapon to yourself. You just make the cord long enough so all you need to do is extend the pistol out farther, or just use your other hand to tug on the cord.

    (useful for camping/hiking)

    You guys have mak pics?
