Re: Planned, Sporadic Downtime between 5/26 and 6/3
Good luck with the migration, Dan. I know it's a ton of work. I hope it works out for the best! Would it be possible to get a static page served up while the forum is down so that people at least get something rather than a generic Apache error? This way, folks who don't see this will know it's a scheduled thing, not just a failure of some kind.

I'd rather have the Apache puke screen than that stupid "eff you. I have data and you can't have it!" 502 screen.
Dan, may I suggest that you start drinking. Heavily. Now."...a REPUBLIC, if you can keep it."

We'll actually be moving onto the Amazon cloud. I've spent the last year or so hosting all my own websites there with great success. One thing I've learned running PAFOA on co-located hardware is that I don't want to own hardware ever again.
With amazon, if a server has a bad power supply, you can have it automatically removed and replaced with a new one, I no longer have to care why a machine is mis-behaving, nor do I have to be directly involved in the fix.
During these downtimes the sites will all be up, but the forum will have it's "maintenance" message up which will explain what's going on.
Thanks for your support guys, these kinds of things are rarely fun, but this at the end of all this we will have a fully automated infrastructure that should be much more resilient to failures, and much easier to fix when they do occur.Dan P, Founder & President, Pennsylvania Firearm Owners Association

I'm predicting a steady diet of pizza and redbull.
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.
