Mechanicsburg Preemption Violation
Koser Park in Mechanicsburg has a nice sign with park rules on it. Among them, is a 'no firearms' rule. I live in Lower Allen Township, but my family uses this park regularly. How do I go about bringing this to the attention of the borough without being blown off since I don't live in Mechanicsburg borough?

Re: Mechanicsburg Preemption Violation
Have you seen this thread > http://forum.pafoa.org/concealed-ope...on-letter.html
...looks very similar to your situation. I would not worry whether you are a resident or not, this is not a voting issue, it is an issue of the law.
First you want to determine whether the local ordinance needs to be brought into compliance or just the sign. Seems it is usually easier and cheaper to update the ordinance. Signs involve money, money involves a process. If the ordinance is correct it would appear they are already in the process of correcting this and you can merely ask when they will have the sign up-to-date as well. And that is a different kind of letter.
It looks like the park belongs to the city of Mechanicsburg. I found this page with contact info...
http://www.mbgsd.org/5609_97624184940/site/default.asp
...but I have not yet found any regulations online for the park. I guess the diplomatic way to word the letter is to simply ask when the sign will be brought into compliance. As a frequent visitor to the park from out-of-town (towns love when we bring money in from outside!) you have an interest in making sure the sign and any ordinances are consistent with state laws.
.While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Re: Mechanicsburg Preemption Violation
I found what appears to be the listing of ordinances for the township, but there is no mention of firearms anywhere. Interesting. So where does the sign come from, and under whose authority was it erected?
I also have not found any regulations for any of the parks, but I did find a page for the town council members and the mayor...

Send your letter to the Mayor. He is the owner of Ritter's True Value on Main Street. If I'm not mistaken Ritter's does transfers. I would like to read his response.
