    Default Allegheny River Arsenal

i purchased a used glock 17 from allegheny river arsenal in verona (just up the allegheny from pittsburgh).

the people there are very friendly. the instacheck system was down the day i purchased my pistol...took about 45 minutes to get the call to go through. they actually gave me two free boxes of ammo and a free hardshell case for the gun because i had to wait...even though it wasn't their fault.

they had the best price i could find around pittsburgh on a used g17 by quite a bit. (the prices used glocks fetch in general kinda blows my mind, though.)

they also have some really cool civil war era stuff to check out while you are waiting for the instacheck to go through.

Small shop but there's a ton to look at. Worth a look.

Steve, the owner, is a super guy and so will be anyone who waits on you. 2 thumbs up for ARA!

I've had pretty good luck finding interesting and rare old guns there.

Couple years ago I bought a Savage 24 there. A model that I have only found once since.

Cool place to visit. Wish I could more often.

I have been looking all over and have called ARA twice with no answer. I work most days and dont want to drive down there and have them be closed. By any chance does someone know their hours of operation? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Shame if they closed, there's some odd ball stuff there. Not your average "gun store" feel to it. It's like 1 part pawn shop, 3 parts collectors heaven, 2 parts standard gun shop. It's wall to wall, stacked to the ceiling with old guns and interesting war and historical memorabilia.

The guy who runs it is great. Unless you act like an idiot in his shop. I was there to witness some guy try to lay some heacy BS on the owner and well, I wouldn't advise it.

Not your black rifle / evil gun HQ. But I haven't seen this kind of all ranges old gun selection anywhere else.

It's honestly worth a trip JUST to look at all the stuff he has. And as mentioned, they treat paying customers extremely well. Even if that's just a box of ammo.

Figured I'd bring this thread back from the dead. I stopped in yesterday and they are definitely going to be closing since the owner has passed away. Not certain how much time they have left but likely everything will wind up at an auction somewhere. Anybody into mil-surps should go see the place while you can. A partial list of what they had off the top of my head:

2 1903A3s, 3 1917 Eddystones, 1 Inland carbine, 2 Krags, 1 K98, 1 Yugo SKS, plus a bunch of other Mausers and god only knows what else that I'm forgetting.

It's going to be sad to see them close their doors.
