Default Carry pistol suggestion for a person w nerve damage

A friend asked me for suggestions.

Here's the issue. Nerve damage limiting the hand strength and recoil tolerance.

Revolvers are out (trigger pull) Ditto anything with a spirited recoil.

Looking for something with VERY low recoil and a light trigger.

I found both triggers to be terrible to me so the triggers are on a scale to me.. The Glock was a crisper suck and the XD was a more mushy suck. They are in the same family, SR9 (heavy suck), Glock (crisp heavy suck), XD( lighter mushy suck), M&P(heavy mushy suck).

Hm, from my limited experience, I would say a 9mm with a minimum 4" barrel. Glock 17c/19c maybe?

Could maybe look into some of the 9mm 1911 setups. I don't personally know how they recoil, I've only shot a friends 9mm S&W something or other in stainless, and it seemed to me to be fairly light in the recoil department.

I would say anything large 9mm with either a SA trigger or striker fired. 9mm 1911 should work great. Or a full size 9mm glock

I don't think I would recommend anything smaller than a Commander size/weight pistol. The weight will help dampen the felt recoil. A full-size M1911 in 9mm, .38 Super or even .40 S&W might work and will offer the best trigger. If the nerve damage is limited to one hand, training with the good hand should be a consideration.

I'd also consider almost any other pistol on the market, Browning Hi Power could be good, or Tanfoglio Witness or CZ. The Best bet is to take him to a range that rents handguns and let him experiment and find what feels right and what he's able to comfortably shoot and manipulate and don't forget the manipulation part is as important as the shooting part. Being able to rack the slide and handle magazines for reloads and even just stuffing cartridges into the magazines are all considerations.

Walther P22. Don't underestimate the lethality of a .22lr. Low recoil, easy trigger, easy to work the slide...

Yes, but the DA trigger removes it from the equation.

It's both hands and slowly progressive. Not getting into it, but the g-17 would be probably the absolute limit of recoil and trigger.

It's DA/SA, not DAO. No need to fire it DA if it isn't desired.

Can't carry it cocked and locked. The first shot is still no good.
