Why can't G19 be up graded to a 40 cal?

Why can't G19 be up graded to a 40 cal? I hear the G23 or G22 can be down graded to a 9mm G19 or G17 with a 9mm barrel change why not the other way around G19 to a 40 cal with a barrel change?

I have a G19 & G23 but I'd just like to know why not?

I'm pretty sure that you're not just putting a 9mm barrel in a .40 gun. It's a specific "conversion" barrel.

Nope... iirc the opening in the front of the G19 slide is not big enough to accomodate a .40 barrel. You can go down from .40 to a 9 mm because the 9 mm conversion barrel is larger and fills up the hole in the .40 slide.

The hole in the slide for the barrel is larger for the .040. The 9 mm conversion barrels for .040s have an increased outside diameter so they fit the larger hole. Unfortunately, you can't make an .040 barrel smaller to fit the 9 mm slide.

I'm one of them if ain't broke don't fix it or change it so I never tried to exchange the barrels. But if it won't fix any way so I won't try.

I may get a long wolf 357 sig barrel to upgrade the G23.

I've wondered about that. The trick would be to make sure that you reamed the new hole on the right axes.

IIRC the tenifer coated metal will kill your drill bits.

I am not familiar with Glock at all but doesn't cartridge pressure and frame strength enter into the equation?

What if you used a carbide endmill? It's gotta be possible, how else would gunsmiths do things like cut forward slide serrations and ports in slides?

If the only thing different is the size of the hole, it might be worth it. Only problem would be, your 9mm barrel would be useless. I guess you could sell it, then buy a wolf conversion barrel and be able to switch between 9mm and .40
