ID and carry questions
Are peace officers allowed to ask for ID if you are open carrying? If so is the LTCF good enough? Do they have the right to take your gun off of you when interviewing you? Do they have the right to check your weapon if you are carrying concealed, or if you tell them you are carrying, is showing the LTCF good enough? If a LEO stops you because someone is ignorant of PA law and reported "a man with a gun"; maliciously finishing his final for developmental psychology on his own porch what should someone do in that situation? Thanks in advance

Re: ID and carry questions
Well you should probably read the stickies at the top of the thread first. As far as open carrying you are not required to show any id at all unless you are being LAWFULLY (key word there) detained. Even then you only need to give your name dob and address.
If you are carrying concealed then a LTCF will be sufficient.

He's not in Philly, but don't forget we are in a State of Emergency right now. Open carry is only legal with a LTCF (or meeting another exception), and the LTCF mus be produced upon "lawful demand" (or at a preliminary hearing).
As for producing or giving ID, I'm aware of no law in PA requiring that you identify yourself to an officer in any way. (Although the point is moot if you're required to show a license for another reason, like carrying or driving).I am not a lawyer. Nothing I say or write is legal advice.

Re: ID and carry questions
The officer can ASK anyhing at all. (I asked for a pony when I was five years old) But, unless he has RAS for a Terry stop, you can refuse to participate in the "mere encounter" and just walk away. Before you walk you might say something like "Officer, I am not aware that you have any reason to bellieve I am involved in any crime. If that is so then this is a mere encounter and I am not being detained. If that is correct then I am leaving to go about my lawful business. Have a good day and be careful out there." Then leave unless he puts his hands on you or says you are being detained/arrested.
My favorite TV lines: Law and Order's Det.Lennie Brisko to a Mafia wiseguy. "If you don't answer my questions I am going to be very suspicious of you." Wiseguy "So, suspect me!!
Blue Bloods detective. A person of interest just told the two detectives to go fly a kite when they wanted to see what was on his laptop computer. He walked off in a huff. Det #1 "Now there is a guy who knows his rights." Det #2 "Yeah, I hate it when that happens."

Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.
