Default Got a little flak from a "guard" at the Montco Courthouse

Every day for the past two weeks, I've been doing the jury duty thing. When I get to the courthouse, I check my sidearm(s). When I go to lunch, I check them out, then back in when I return, and back out again at the end of the day. Until this morning, it's been a very smooth process, and I've received almost no guff at all - in fact, there's been several positive encounters in the past couple of weeks.

This morning, however, when I walked up to security, the guard who opened te locker said, "This again?"

I get it; it's repetetive. I replied, "yeah, only a couple more days."
"Can't you just leave it in the car for one day?"
"And if the car gets stolen, put two guns on the street? I think not."
    He shrugged.

I checked the 1911 and the Bodyguard, but as the paperwork was being filled out, another, older guard spoke up.

"Do you go check them out for lunch every day?
    "Sure do."
"Where do you go for lunch?"
"Blimpie across the street sometimes...usually McDonalds down on 202."

He didn't say anything else, so I went through the metal detector. When I got my stuff back together, I asked him, "Why do you ask?"

"Why don't you just leave it checked while you go to lunch, if you're just going across the street? That way we din't have to fill out the paperwork everyday.
"I don't just go across the street. I walk around town, too -"
He cut me off. "You're afraid to go for a walk in Norristown without a gun?
"It has nothing to do with fear."
"What -does- it have to do with?"
"I choose to carry all the time."

He wasn't in a winning debate, and he stopped arguing. I was really tempted to apologize to him for making them do their jobs.

Makes me want to volunteer for jury duty, just to bust balls.

    I would have said "Abso-freekin-lutely"

Ever been down Marshall street at anytime during the day?

Sounds like these guys are trained to assume that only LE should be able to carry.. What a joke

Thanks for not giving in. I hate that kind of attitude; it is their job, they should do it without complaining.

You should of answered yes when he asked if you are scared to walk around Norristown. A women was robbed at gunpoint by 2 men last weekend on Airy st. That happened during the day.

Is the deputy carrying a firearm? What's he scared of?

No need. Just pay frequent visits to the courthouse. It's a public building, and you have every right to visit whenever you wish.

Of course, if their storage process wasn't so complicated then they wouldn't have a problem.

"Tell you what, dude. If it's too much of a bother or disruption to you, why don't you just go tell Judge So-and-so that you don't think it's worth the bother having me as a juror? Make sure you do it in front of both the prosecuting and especially the defense attorneys. Maybe he'll dismiss me, and I can go back to my regular job instead of getting paid less than two dollars an hour for the time I waste here."
