Software-based censorship is somewhat ridiculous. I remember researching debate topics in high school (I've got two LVIDA debate championships), most research in school was limited for any controversial topic and I was stuck looking up things at home or at a library all due to the school's filters.

I didn't say they couldn't. It is still, in my opinion, ridiculous censorship.

Censorship can be legal or illegal; this happens to be the legal kind.

I know that at our high school they pay for bandwidth so they block all that stuff so it won't cost them as much per month for their Internet service.

Plus it keeps the kids more focused on their "educational" research or they would spend the whole period looking up stuff that they should not be looking up instead of the actual assignment.

Yeah, I had to stay there a few months ago with my son when he was sick. Most of the sites I like to visit were blocked.
