    Default Ammo Group Buy?

Anyone ever think about doing something like this? I got bored so I called Cabela's asking if they support group buys, and if so, how do they operate it..

Basically, all you have to do is have someone "in charge" call Corporate, set up an "account" which then they give you a ID Number.. Which then anyone can call directly to get their discount.. You have to call corporate first, can't just go to the store..

The discount is based on how much the group/club/organization spends per year (estimated)

    $0 - $5,000 a year : 10%
    $5001 - 15,000 per year : 15%
    15 to 30 a year : 15-20% - based on Cabelas overhead and cost.

And this is good for pretty much ANYTHING they have (hint ammo hint).. So it's really not a group buy thing, it's more like a "If your org spends alot of cash here, we'll give you a discount"

Like I said, It took me all of 5 minutes to call, and figured i'd throw it out there..

So basically, we pay retail price, and at the end of the year, they issue a rebate based on the total spent? Sounds like figuring out and dividing the rebate among those who actually shopped would be a nightmare, but this might be a way to raise money for PAFOA (the rebate goes to them).

I think that the discount applies to the individuals at the time of purchase. Something like this takes a year or two to really see any savings, because the organization has to build up a history. Then they can get a good estimate of how much of a discount applies to a certain group. I am pretty sure that it is not a rebate type of program.

OK, I see. Right off the bat, your getting 10%. But as time goes on, and we spend more and more money, if we as a group, end up spending over $5000, then our discount will jump to 15% and probably stay there unless our purchase powers go down or increase.

Kind of interesting. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what happens.

I don't know if this would be worth it for ammo. Cabelas is kinda overpriced on ammo and 10-15% off still will not beat the prices you can get it elsewhere if you shop around. It might however be worth it for reloading materials?

You can use the discount on anything they have.. guns, sporting goods, camping stuff, ski's.. etc etc

And once you go over the 5,000, the discount will stay that high until you have a year that you spend less then that.. it's basically the first year establishes how much your group spends.. Once you spend say 15k in your first year, you're discount is always at least 15% or so

So all we need to do is have a representative of PAFOA call Cabela's, and then distribute the number that they give him on the forum? Then we can all go buy stuff, and get a 10%+ discount? Sounds too easy.

Honestly. I like Cabela's but I rarely buy from them because prices are kinda high...even with a 10-15% discount! I can buy so many other places cheaper and not have to go through the rigor moral.

It's a good idea though...but maybe work up a deal from a more 'reasonable' dealer?

    Just my $.01 after taxes...
