How about that CZ 82

Any body have any experience with the CZ 82? Pros, cons, whatever. Seems like a decent piece for carry with a cocked and locked capability and double action (if ever needed) as well.

I have two of them and love them to pieces. It is the only 13 shot Makarov (9x18) eater. It is truly ambidexterious and the form-fitting grip is really comfortable. Unlike most other Europeans the safety pushes DOWN to fire instead of up. It is quite accurate and is most unusual in that the rifling is polygonal rather than the usual lands and grooves.

If you get one and plan on shooting hollow points, then make sure you shoot it in with the ammo you plan on using and that there are no feed problems. Some 9x18s experience feed problems with SOME HPs. I carry and use the 95 gr. Hornady HP ammo and it works just fin in all five of my Mak eaters.

Only down side is loading that double stack mag. Getting the 11th and 12th cartridge in takes a good bit of finger strength.

I highly recommend it. AIM seems to have the better ones and I would buy from them.

I have my eye on one... I need one to add to my CZ collection... not really thinking of one for a carry piece, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it as one...

I have 3 of them, I think they're great. Very reliable, nice size and weight, reasonable recoil, inexpensive, what more could you want? The only downside is that the ammo isn't as common as 9mm, and it's a little bit more expensive. Not saying that the ammo is uncommon, or prohibitively expensive, just not as common and a bit more expensive. Excellent choice!
Bought one last month from AIM for my wife. She loves it and will use it for her CCW when her license arrives. I'm going to get another for myself. The CZ82's from AIM are in excellent, almost new condition, dated 1986-1989, include an extra mag and a funky but very usable flap holster. For $240 delivered (C&R license) you can't go wrong.

Karl/PA mentioned that the CZ82 double stack mags are real difficult to top off....absolutely right! However, a .380 mag speed loader solves that problem. You can buy one fairly cheap at Sportsman's Guide, Midlands, etc.

I bought the CZ83 in .380 in 1995. Unjammable. I loaded some bullets into cases backwards ( no Powder) and the gun will feed the flat nosed bullets without a hitch. I was waiting for 10 years for the CZ82 to come out. I have the American Rifleman article on the CZ-82 from 1995 if anyone wants to e mail me for it. papa

This is an old thread but I'm breathing life into it because I too just picked up a CZ82 and I love the look and feel of it. Looking around, I'm finding that the 9mm Makarov ammo is the same price as 9mm Lugar / Nato / Parabellum (your pick).

I got mine from Southern Ohio Guns for $179 and it came with 2 mags and that flap holster. It does show wear on the outside but the barrel is liked polished glass. I'm glad you pointed out the rifling Karl. As I looked into the barrel at a light, it was smooth and like a mirror. I was puzzled as to why there was no twist.

I found a website in the UK that makes custom grips. I'm really considering having this thing Robar'd and getting custom grips to make it my purdy carry gun. Of course, then I would have to get another 1 or 2 to keep as originals. ;-)
