electioneering rules for pa. Can I OC?
Cannot seem to find any laws outside of I have to stay 10 feet away from the entrance and I cant punch or threaten someone trying to vote.
Does anyone have any laws they could cite for me. I'm just trying to make sure I can OC while electioneering outside the poll (its not a school) know I can carry when I vote, did that, I'm more concerned if there is some obscure law regarding passing out pamphlets while your OCing.

I know of no law either allowing or prohibiting it, but I have read reports here of folks OCing while electioneering around the state with no legal issues resulting, and rarely a (misplaced) hassle from uninformed officials.

Don't worry, I believe you're safe OC'ing. Just don't be intimidating.
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

I use to have several booklets laying out election day rules from my time as a district leader. I have not seen them since i moved 5 years ago but use to know them inside out. I do not recall any references to fire arms what so ever but could be wrong. This is close to the booklet I had and is worth looking over if you are working the polls tomorrow.

The closest thing I can find is on page 60 which talks about intimidation and coersion at the polls. Think Black Panthers carry AK's at the polling place. While most on this board being pro 2 amendment probably would not look at a gun open carried by a poll worker as being intimidating, some of the general public or the opposition party might disagree. I would imagine the final decision would be up to the Judge of Elections at your polling place. You could argue if he asked you to hide your gun or put it away because people feel intimidated, but I don't think you would get far because of the rule on page 60. Also the Judge of Elections should have a hard copy of the polling place rules.Last edited by internet troll; April 23rd, 2012 at 08:26 PM.

Re: electioneering rules for pa. Can I OC?
I can't seam to find it but I think there was a ruling on "working polls" either inside or outside handing out pamphlats that one cannot be armed with anything.. the black patters were actually breaking the law but since they were on the Dem side it seamed no one bothered upholding the law that election..There was a lot of talk on it at local and national levels on ABC about Philly and the lack of law enforcement.
The link above,, does not say anything about it directly but I bet depending on the local you may get someone saying it was intimidation.. be careful and good luck..
The reference to the BP was that they were interacting with voters that looked "republican" and engaged in intimidation according to the news.. but nothing ever came of it.. big surprise there..Last edited by Cruiser; April 23rd, 2012 at 08:32 PM.

Here is another on line document I found that also addresses your question to an extent. Different counties can make their own rules so in part the gun issue could vary by where you live in pa.
