    Default Place to shoot-Butler County

Was out today with the family and my daughter in law mentioned that she would like to try target shooting..Score one for our side. Can anyone suggest a public range in the Cranberry area? Forget the Wexford State Game Lands--they suck- from what I have read here.

Sadly, no such a thing exists. Even the nearest clubs aren't in Cranberry.
It has to start someplace... It has to start sometime...

I haven't been to Wexford since the range fee /hunters license requirement came into effect. Wait and see if anyone comments as to whatever positive changes have occurred if any. Beats a blank though .

I was at the gamelands about 2 weeks ago. Since moving from my 10 acres, its the only place to shoot until I join a local club.

As for the gamelands...I didn't encounter any issues (shooters or wardens), though I did have to pick up a hunting license at Dicks. Backstops were in half decent shape, all areas are covered and they recently scooped some ground from behind the benches so when it rains, the drainage stays close to the hillside instead of going under the benches.

There are some clubs close to Cranberry...Millvile gun club in Wexford, Northside in Warrendale, Mars gun club in Mars and Rochester gun club just over the border in Beaver (they have a new 300yd range).

Thanks for the reminder, I still need to make some time and check a couple places out to join since moving to the area. A 300 yard range sounds nice...going to have to look into Rochester too.

I almost shot at the Wexford range a few weeks ago, but when I got a look at it I left. I don't like that all of the firing points (rifle and pistol) are on the same line. It's a long firing line and there were a ton of people there.

The Slippery Rock Sportsmans Club is having an Appleseed this weekend May 5 and 6. It is a great experience for new shooters. Women shoot for $10 for the weekend, Youths unser 21 are only $5. Just bring a rifle (mag fed .22 suggested), ammo and a teachable attitude.

My girls 10 and 9 will be there.

I hope to see you there.
