Did PA ever have a CCW Permit?
Got a friend of mine that swears up and down that he used to have a CCW Permit in Delaware County years ago. He keeps trying to lecture me on if you have a permit, you have to conceal or otherwise it's brandishing. I have searched and can't find anything on the internet that dates back far enough to give me an answer if PA ever had a CCW Permit and what the requirements were if there ever was one.
Anyone know when PA specifically stated issuing LTCF and not a CCW?

I dont know.
I do know that at Cabela's cafeteria they have some old Pennsy LTCFs from the 1920s on display under glass on some of the tables.

Re: Did PA ever have a CCW Permit?
No permit or license in ANY state has ever required the person to conceal if open carry was legal. ...so, no - no prior incarnation of a PA license/permit has ever required the person to conceal. Open carry has always been legal in PA(except Philly where it is regulation)
No permit anywhere, regards of the abbreviation, where open carry is legal has ever required the licensee/permittee to conceal the gun.
PA started issuing the the LTCF as we know it in the 1930's. There were license/permits before that though.
Permit and license mean the same thing. Only the controlling text of law determines the prohibited acts and the exemptions. The name means nothing.
There is no brandishing law in PA. Has never been one as far as I know. And to "brandish" a gun you must wave it or display it in a threatening and menacing manner.Last edited by knight0334; April 21st, 2012 at 08:22 PM.

Somebody once posted a news article here from the 30s that mentioned the LTCF and the UFA I think.
