alot harder than an ar, not as hard as a 1919.

do you plan on building off of a flat or a pre made registered receiver??

well, if you dont know a builder who can help, thats going to add about $100+ to the bill. thats not bad if you plan on doing a few, but its a little unreasonable to do just one.

if you have a drill press and a dremmel, and a hammer and set of punches, it can be done with just those (except for bending the flat) yes, the special tools DO make it alot easier/quicker, but ive done quite a few builds with nothing more than a hammer, punches, a vice, and my homemade bending jig.

Building one AK is no cost savings over buying one. You'd need to build several before it became economical. Unless you want to build it just to say you did. I'll be buying my first, but could get interested in building down the road.

This guy makes tooling and jigs for AK construction. Pricey, but top-shelf quality.

This guy made some budget tools that do the job.

If you don't mind my asking, how did you go about making your jig? Did you aquire plans from somewhere? Was it very difficult?

i was making ak's before i got all "internet postie". i got the agi video, and it had plans in it for a hammer bending jig (you hammer the flat around the corners of it) i made it on my mill (that helps) if you dont have acess to one and had to pay a machine shop, your prob just better off buying a press type jig. my cost for mine was $8 (plus my time)

now ive found SOOO much more info since then online, lots of diffrent homemade tools and such to make things easier and better looking.

if you chek over at gunco.net, there is a sticky for a "very poor mans bending jig" that looks pretty simple."pookie" (from the website mentioned above) posts there alot too forget his screen name there.

another good one for homemade tools (besides pookie's) is the guns-guts and god site. dont know the EXACT addy, but googling that should get you there.
