Default Are there coyotes in lower bucks co.

I know there are in the Yardley area but does anyone know how prolific they have become? Has anyone else heard that Pa coyotes are larger than the ones out west because they have a bit of wolf in them? Is this true or false?

There are coyotes in all 67 counties. Animals by nature get larger and heavier the more north and or east, due to harsher winters and less hotter summers. It helps with thermoregulation.

There have been some DNA studies that suggest that the northeastern coyote has some wolf or red wolf DNA in them.

well, i hit one with a ford explorer about three years ago on 476 a little before quakertown to the north. He was a little bigger than a border collie.

i'd say probably, but good luck finding one. got night vision?

We have them in the Poconos. You know the missing dog posters? My kids see them and say, "Coyote treat."

Seriously I know a vet that has an office across from Yardley golf course and he sees them frequently. He said they all have mange but they are there.

Interesting you bring up the wolf/coyote connection. Just read this the other day and it seems to say yes.

I've seen Coyotes in Lower Bucks just off Bustleton Ave, just barely on the outskirts of Philly (in the past 6 months).

I think it is safe to say there are coyotes in every county in PA. Saw one cross the street last summer while I was looking out my bedroom window at 2am ..heard it yelp and it woke me up.

Glad I have the 6ft chainlink ...but I still don'y let my dogs out alone.

They are everywhere and getting more prolific.

    From Wiki ...

Coyotes have also been known, on occasion, to mate with wolves, though this is less common than with dogs, due to the wolf's hostility to the coyote. The offspring, known as a coywolf, is generally intermediate in size to both parents, being larger than a pure coyote, but smaller than a pure wolf. A study showed that of 100 coyotes collected in Maine, 22 had half or more wolf ancestry, and one was 89% wolf. The large eastern coyotes in Canada are proposed to be actually hybrids of the smaller western coyotes and wolves that met and mated decades ago, as the coyotes moved toward New England from their earlier western ranges.[23] Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources research scientist Brent Patterson has revealed findings that most coyotes in Eastern Ontario are wolf-coyote hybrids and that the Eastern wolves in Algonquin Park are, in general, not interbreeding with coyotes.[29]

I hunt Yardley and have never seen a coyote. Doesn't mean that they aren't there. I have seen a ton of fox though. The fox population in Yardley is ridiculous. I have also seen some pretty mangey ones.
