    Default Taurus PT1911 Guide Rod

I have a Taurus PT1911 on the way. I don't want to hear anything bad about them, that's not the purpose of this post.

What I want to know is can I replace the full-length guide rod with a standard 1911 plug and short rod?

Yes. My boyfriend has had his for years, and just recently started to customize it. He started with the guide rod and recoil spring. So far, he's also changed the barrel bushing, slide stop, and some internals.

Did he keep the plug or change that too? which rod and spring did he get? I know not all will fit.

I think so. I'm pretty sure you have to, because the one for the full length rod, won't fit a traditional one. I have no idea what he got, except that he got a much heavier recoil spring than before. He's not here, or I'd ask him. I know he ordered it from Brownell's.

Stay with Wolff springs at 16lbs. Variable or straight rate are fine.

Yep, especially if you want to shoot target ammo or the store bought, warm stuff.
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

I had one for years and can say it NEVER failed right out of the box. I personally have nothing against full length guide rods but you came to the right place for information about changing them.
