    Default AR ejection direction

I have two AR's, a 16" carbine and a 20" AR. The uppers look rather identical and so do the bolts and extractors. My carbine always ejects the spent casings forward. Anyone else have an AR that ejects the shells forward instead of back? Anyone know why it does this?

    Hawk,
    Maybe the ejector.

If so a good gunsmith can fix it with a little light filing.

Filing works well on FAL ejectors and brass ejection direction.

    Hmmm.

A2 brass deflectors on the uppers? Carbines have a little more violent ejection because of the shortened gas tube.

Maybe the carbine ejects the spent cases a little harder and they bounce forward off of the deflector.

That would be my guess. The brass deflector could kick it forward with the extra power of the ejection.

That's what it looked like was happening with my Bushie carbine. I watched the empty brass as a friend of mine shot it.

My RRA mid length does the same thing. At least it deposits all the empties in a nice pile though. Every empty case lands within a two foot circle.
