This class will be held on August 11, 19 at 9:00 AM at Guthsville Rod and Gun Club and is designed to take someone with basic pistol handling skills and teach them the knowledge and skills needed to successfully use a pistol defensively in the home. This class is unlike any other class you will take because this class includes steps to prevent your house from being broken into, classroom sessions, range time and sessions taught by a practicing lawyer who specializes in firearm and use of force laws. This course is a prerequisite for all of the other Defensive classes.

Topics and skills covered include:

Winning Mindset, Stages of Alertness, Physiology of Stress, Preparing the House, Safe Rooms, Equipment Considerations and Storage, Combat Marksmanship, Training Considerations, Tactics, Low Light Considerations, Making a Plan, and Family Considerations; Isosceles Stance, Kneeling Stance, One Handed Marksmanship, Target Identification, Shooting with a Flashlight, Failure Drills, Reload Drills, and Shooting on the Move.

Legal Topics covered by a lawyer include:

* The use of force, and the use of deadly force.
* Self-defense, necessity, and justification.
* Aftermath of a good or bad shooting, civil and criminal.
* Duty to retreat, the Castle Doctrine, and "Stand your ground" laws.
* Using NFA firearms for self-defense in the home or on the street.
* Other weapons - machine guns, switchblades, stun guns, bombs, lions and tigers and bears, oh my.
* Paramilitary training - how much fun are you allowed to have?


Prerequisites:
The ability to shoot 10/10 rounds on a vertical 8 1/2" X 11" paper at 7 yards.*
Documentation of clean criminal history (PA. State Police background check, letter from a local Police Chief, valid PA LTCF, etc.)

Required Equipment:
Pistol you plan to use at home
2+ magazines/speed loaders
250+ rounds of factory ammunition (no handloads or reloads)
Range-appropriate holster
Hat, Eye and Ear protection
Flashlight
Clear Criminal History

Cost: $250 / person OR $225 if household members attend together
