Default Need some rifle basic training...

I recently purchased an AR15 carbine and have only shot it the day that I bought it so far. I am looking to customize it and add on all the little goodies that I think I will want. So I have been looking at optics and haven't got a clue what to get. This stuff is like alphabet soup to me once I start reading.

I think I need some basic rifle training as far as how to zero in my sights and to get an understanding on what type of optics would be best for the type of shooting I want to do on a regular basis. I am trying to read up on the subject of all the different reticles out there and what would be best for me, however most of the articles assume that you have an understanding of the subject already. Anyone know if they publish a book or series of videos like "AR-15's for Dummies"?

I like to have a solid understanding of everything and don't want to be one of these "just point it and shoot" kinda guys.

Appleseed is certainly good. I won't claim to be able to offer any kind of training like they do, however if your looking for someone with experience with the AR15 platform to help you get it set up guide you towards quality gear then PM me and i'll be happy to help. I'm located in Langhorne, PA just outside Philadelphia.

Anyone know if there will be any walk-on space available for the Saturday or Sunday Appleseed event in Manheim?

As of this morning, there are 19 pre-registered for Manheim and they can accomodate up to 30 so there is room for walk on's - they have a great instructor crew there for this weekend.

Appleseed was great, both my son and I attended last fall and
    really enjoyed it.

AR-15 I took a 4 day class at Front Sight last April. I had never
shot anything other than a 22 prior to that. I was looking at this
rifle thinking I'd never understand all the buttons, switches etc.
By the end of the 2nd day the instructor asked my boyfriend
how long I'd been shooting. It wasn't that hard to figure out.

I have an ACOG on mine and I do have the papers on how to zero
your rifle from Front Sight. I'll be glad to send you them just PM
    me if you want them.
I dislike the diamond commercials, give me something useful like guns, ammo or cookware.

Thanks for the heads up. What is the difference between the instruction on Saturday in comparison to Sunday? I am not sure if I can make it for Saturday, but I dont want to show up on Sunday and have missed out on critical instructions. I read something on the internet about how the first day is instuction and then the second day is more about how to teach others?

All of the instruction provided on Saturday is repeated on Sunday - just in a shorter timeframe.
