    Default Which revolver?

I'm thinking about getting a small revolver and I've always liked the Chief's Special. I'd rather have a Detective Special but those can be hard to find.

Anyway, I'm pondering two different J-frames.

The Model 36, the Chief's Special

and the Model 38, the Bodyguard, made famous by David Doyle in Charlie's Angels.

The Bodyguard has the shrouded hammer which would allow for firing from within a pocket without snagging the hammer but holsters might be hard to find.

I personally like the Chiefs Special better for a few reasons. Mostly I am just into older guns and the Chiefs Special is a classic. I also personally hate the look of concealed hammer revolvers, they just look wonky to me. It ruins that classic revolver look.

However I suggest you get a detective special. I picked up one in very nice shape made in 1927 for $400.

I'd go for the 36 just because I never really like the shrouded hammer design. Do you plan on using it cc if so the 38 would probably be a wiser choice but just for a new addition to the collection I'd take the 36 chief

Yeah, I do want it for carry. I know what you mean about the look. I much prefer the look of the Centennial but they can be harder to find at a low price.

Interesting I've never seen one of those if you did find one at a likeable price I would pick that also it does look a lot better IMO good luck!

I got rid of my long time SP101 and picked up a S&W 638 Bodyguard. I love it and what an easy carry. Can't say one bad thing about it.

I had a featherweight Bodyguard for a while, just because I liked the shrouded hammer. My oldest daughter picked one and still has it for the same reason. I am pretty sure that most J frame holsters will fit it. I sold mine because it was just a little too small for my hand. The big attraction was the shroud. It makes pocket carry a lot easier and still offers single action fire as an option.
