Default Arrested with 6 day old expired permit to carry illegal?

I am new to this site and I need some clarification please. I was stopped by police at night for a non-registered plate on a new car. So the car was searched and I was arrested by pa state police in November 2011 for having a gun in my car with 6 day old expired permit to carry. I was in jail for 44 days, convicted of a felony, received time served and 2 years probation. Now I was going over the laws and in reading I believe I had 6 months after my permit expired to be covered under the law. Is this correct? I lost all privileges of owning my guns and they were all taken from me. So I am a little confused is there anyone who can enlighten me please?

    Did you have a lawyer?

For it to be a felony, you would have to have been ineligible for an LTCF. If you just don't have a license, either because you never applied for one or it expired, it's only a 1st degree misdemeanor.

You HAD a defense if your license was recently expired, but it was up to your lawyer to raise it.

Ummm... wow. You got screwed. Please tell me you didn't have a lawyer... and if you did, can you post his name so that users on this website know to never use him.

WOW if this all true you need to get a lawyer to take that conviction off of your file and get your guns back and sue the piss out of anyone you can.

I'm concerned about this part too: "a non-registered plate on a new car".

Didn't the dealer give you a temporary card for the rear window?

Maybe he left out the part that the new car was stolen.

This was my first thought too, and I am nowhere near as smart as GL.

And that he used the weapon in stealing the vehicle?? If not... I fail to see how he would be convicted of a felony.

Wait a minute.... OP are you a barber? Because that time frame lines up with my shaggy period caused by my barber doing time on a weapon's charge...
