Yeah, I also am failing to see why having it and not needing it is a terrible thing? Isn't the whole "better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it" thing sort of a big reason for owning firearms in the first place?

Exactly! I have been following this thread for the fourteen pages and I can not believe that it has gone on so long and with such heated debate over something in a design that it not in the way or would hinder performance.

And yes, I have used my forward assist a few times in the just over twenty years that I have played with the ARs to make sure that the bolt was fully seated.

its suppose to be used for when you need your rifle to work but you can't really clean it at the time... I'm sure its saved many lives in war.
