Default Little ole' Fulton County. Nothing bad will happen here.

Well so much for that defense. I have searched and could not find any articles related to this story on the boards yet. I recall during Greg's ordeal alittle over a month, one of the arguments on the PO online comments section that nothing bad happens in Chambersburg, why in the world would someone need a gun. Fulton County is just right over the mountain from Chambersburg and this guy was shot repeatedly in his back yard. It is becoming more and more evident that the utopian "Mayberry" defense for our area, will not stand up in today's world.

Did I read that right, the schools are regularly locked down? Doesn't sound all that safe to me if they feel its necessary.

I think outside of McConnellsburg, greeting visitors with a gun in hand is the norm. At least it was when I worked there 12 years ago.

I think they misspoke, it is common for the only the entrance at the office being the only door open for visitors. Good idea of controlling access to the school and protecting the kids.

Actually, I don't believe they did. SOP for Chambersburg Area School District is for all doors to be locked. There is a buzzer and camera at the 'main' entrance to be used by visitors, who are then supposed to check in at the office before wandering off through the school. I never do the office sign in/out thing, and haven't been bugged about it (I'm usually there to pick up if my son's sick or has a Dr.'s appt.). It takes less time to get him and go than it would to sign in/out. I will say that I have NEVER found the door unlocked when arriving at the school (I always check).

The heightened threat recently has led to additional measures such as no outdoor recess, etc. at schools near the area they believe the suspect may be; but, technically the schools are 'locked down' on a daily basis.
