Default somone explain M&P 9 variations to me

im looking into them because i have shot them and liked them alot,

whats the difference between the fullsize 9mm with the 17rd mag and the one w/ the 10 rnd mag?
if you compare the two, the overall length of the two is different one is 7.5" and the other is 7.63"
    and the obvious mag difference.

I don't understand the two options, everything else is the same, unless im missing something here,
    here are the links:

why is the overall length different?

They're the same. Someone at S&W apparently hasn't figured out all those funny little lines on the ruler.

M&Ps come in a bunch of variants to comply with different states' laws (capacity, mag safety, trigger pull, etc).

The 17 round magazines are for sale in free states. The 10 round are for states that have magazine capacity restrictions.

Check out this catalog on page 15-16 for a breakdown of all the features on the different M&P models.

Just for completeness here are the other two sections of the catalog the Pro Series M&P are in the second one.

Yes it is. Especially when trying to figure out what models have the internal lock (IMHO useless), mag disconnect and manual safety depending on your preferences.

    I consulted this before I got my M&P 40.

Yeah, considering how few M&Ps have the internal lock, I wish they'd do away with the "LOCK" lettering on the ones that don't.
