Help, I need a good place to have a gun re-blued.

I starting a restoration of an early Remington 870, and will be looking to have the receiver, barrel, mag tube, etc. re-blued. I'm not looking for a cheap quickie job. I want this to look like new and last. If anyone knows of a good smith in the so. central PA area please let me know. Thanks

This might be a little too late but,

Have you thought about having the shotgun redone with CeraKote. It is a very good way to bring a gun back to life. Plus you could have it done in almost any color you want. CeraKote is a VERY durable finish. Do a search here using "Cerakote" and you should get some threads that will show you before and after pictures of CeraKoted guns. There are several of us that do this but you might have to ship the 870 to the closest shop. I'm in State College, Brian/EFR is in Easton and I believe MtnJack (Pittsburgh) is also getting into the business.

Cerakote is a nice idea. But if you really do want to blue it, call remington and see what they would charge. But its probably more than what you would find elsewhere.

Thanks for the resposes. I'm sort of surprised that I haven't been able to come up with someone in my area doing blueing. The ceracote (SP?) is a good product, but for this particular gun I want to keep it as original as possible. I won't go into the gun's history, but it is somewhat significant, so no mod's for this one. I never thought about contacting Remington, just seemed reasonable that I could find someone doing good work locally. I'll give it a shot.

Try Staudt's Gun Shop in Harrisburg. They have a gunsmith in their shop. I was in the other day for the first time, and the owner was showing me examples of the gunsmith's work (it's a new store). What he showed me did look like impressive work.

Give a call to Hake's Sporting Goods. I don't know who he uses but the jobs come out fantastic. It's not in house but if you drop the gun off, you'll pick it up looking new. 252-1072

Call Dale at Big Sky Gun Shop 267-347-4522, he does hot bluing and other finishes too. He is about 2 hours away from you but he does nice work.

Shooting the X in Carlisle they have a good gunsmith friend of mine had a stock done and barrel blued was very pleased

A day late and a dollar short, but if you're still looking try Bullseye Shooters Supply in Elizabethtown. He does hot salts bluing. Steve and Dave do good work.
