    New H&R owner here. Bought one yesterday in excellent shape. Here is what I know about.
    Has Model 929, 22 Cal on the barrel. Serial starts with AN any idea why this gun says 22 Cal and not 22L, also when it was produced?

    AN = 1975

    About the 22 versus 22L, because they only made the 929 in 22LR, which also fits Long and Short. ....so there was no need to differentiate between LR, L, and S since all LR's will accommodate L's and S's.

    Sir, thanks for your reply and valuable comments, I ask because most of the pics I see on this forum, and the WWW all show the barrel stamped with 22LR, mine is stamped with 22CAL, can you describe the differences and why this one is different?

    My father recently passed and I received his collection. This included an H&R Model 929 starting with a "T". I assume this is a 1957? I agree with the posting: this shoots very nice. I was in Central PA with my son last week and we enjoyed plinking with it. Thanks!
