Default First time open carrying today.

I've seen others post about their first time so what the heck, I might as well also. Went for a walk on a 2 mile trail that goes behind my house with my 5 year old son and black lab. I always conceal carry when we head out. About 100 yards into the walk I realized I left my wallet home with my ltcf card in it. Now I know the possibility that something might arise where I would need the ltcf are basically zero but I thought about going back and getting it anyway. Then I realized open carry is legal so I uncovered the gun making it open carry.

Passed a few other people on the trail and no one looked twice that I could see. Between the dog chasing deer and a fox I totally forgot about the gun on my hip. Was not until I got home that realized it was my first time open carrying. Not a big deal or exciting story, but still a first for me.

Congratulations. Welcome to the .gov watch list.

Always remain calm, confident, polite & respectful. Nothing throws their 'gun nut' logic for an infinite loop more than a calm, confident, polite & respectful gun owner openly carrying their firearm, and nothing else represents American freedom more-so.

But but, it is so easy to be a smart ass when you hear there is a MWAG and you act shocked got where where. Or when they say about it being on your hip and you go, don't panic! The magical bullet breathing Monster can't get out it's cage without me pushing a button

As much fun as it is to respond to "Is that a gun?" with "Have you seen John Connor?" it's actually much more effective, and better for all of us to take the less fun approach and be as respectful and polite as possible.

Lol, gonna have to use that one some time. Some humor before hand to break the tension helps a little bit

Now that you've been bitten by the OC bug, be sure to brush up on all of the informative threads on handling situations that may arise while OCing... especially the stickies in the OC forum, such as:

    Good stuff.
