Default Are pistol hi-cap mags banned in PA, for carry, etc.?

I was speaking with a friend who had a coversation with an officer from Homeland Security. The friend carries a 9mm with a 15 round mag (pre-ban). The officer told him that it was illegal to carry hi-cap mags regardless. I don't own and hi-caps, out of personal prference of guns. But I never thought they were banned. Am I missing something???

Nope that guy is an idiot.

In Pennsylvania you can posses and carry the largest mags you can possibly find.

Maybe Homeland Security boy should mind his own business and keep his trap shut when he has no idea what he's talking about.

Why the hell would someone from DHS be knowledgeable about this anyway? The kids at McDonalds have no idea how to fix my transmission, (usually) so I don't bother discussing it with them...

Your friend needs to stop taking advice from cops.

    The idiot is 100% incorrect.

There was a hi-cap ban in place about 10 years ago thanks to the Clinton Administration. But that expired in 2004... Not to say it can't happen again... Best to go out and get all the hi-caps you can, just to be safe.

Thanks guys. That's what I figured. Now, before you call the officer an idiot, he's actually a nice guy. He worked for me MANY years ago. Was running the register at our gas station when some loser robbed the store at gunpoint. I have to say, our guy was young and small in stature, but he handled it very well, even after the robber fired a shot. I was surprised at how he kept compsure and even more so that he continued to work for us!

The day after the robbery, I searched and found the round in the ceiling tile(nice investigation by the cops...). Anyway, I called the detective back to the store and since I located the round, they were able to charge the robber with attempted murder, based on the proximity of the round to where our friend was standing.

So...a nice guy giving VERY bad legal advice. We will have him corrected post haste!

In Pa you may carry these

I recommend carrying no less than 2 at all times when visiting a city of the first class.

"Hi-Cap" Magazines are not illegal in this state. However, we should help pass the newest legislation titled "hi-cap morons". It's a ban on people like those described in the OP.

Continually disappointed in the lack of knowledge of the law that those who are charged with enforcing it have.

Would this officer have arrested someone for carrying too "large" a mag?

Which never had anything to do with owning and carrying them. Or selling them by the way. The only thing it affected was new manufacture of hicap mags. And certain guns (think AR15). There were very few real affects of that retarded ban...

1 - The price on existing hicap mags and certain guns went through the roof
2 - Glock immediately sank tits deep in money selling and reselling their massive inventory at jacked up prices
3 - Millions of gun owners were completely pissed off and still are. This was the Vietnam of gun bans for us.
It has to start someplace... It has to start sometime...
