I bought my first rifle (56K warning)
I bought my first rifle on Saturday. I've been looking at the Remington 700's for awhile now. I was at Sportsman's Supply in Butler and found a used Remington 700 SPS Stainless for $389 so I bought it. It has a black synthetic stock with a stainless barrel, chambered in 30-06. It came with a Bushnell Banner 4-12 X 40 mm scope mounted on a Leupold base and rings. I picked up a cheap bi-pod for it at Wal-Mart for $40. Here are some pics of the set up and my targets from the first trip to the range. I fired the 5 shot groups of Federal Power-Shok 150 grain soft points. The targets were set at 100 yards.
The first group. Should've used a different target. Not sure which hole is from the fifth shot.
The second group, this time on a fresh target. The shot on the left is the first shot I took. I adjusted the scope 4 clicks to the right.
This is my third group.
I'm pretty happy with it. Hopefully I can get back to the range soon and run some different types of ammo through it. Eventually I'll start reloading my own for this rifle.

Check the action bedding and scope mounts, those groups should be considerably tighter than that, also try differant ammo. They look a lot bigger than 1 1/2 inch.

Is 56K even still available? I mean, there are those who still have it?

I do have some other ammo to try out. It was getting dark on Saturday, so I didn't get to try anything besides the Federal. I'm pretty new to rifles, so I'm sure the issue lies more with my abilities than the rifle.
Yes people still use it. Sadly, when my DSL craps out, I still resort to dial-up.

I have the 700SPS Varmint, and also love mine, pretty much the same rifle other than the stock. Have a Bushnell Legend 5-15x40 scope, haven't found that perfect ammo yet, but am shooting OK groups for ground hogs. Good luck finding a good ammo for your gun!
