270 win loads
What is your pet load? I tried some yesterday with h414, h4350 and h4831Sc. I have had good results with other calibers with 414 and 4350 but this is my first time trying 4831. Just looking for some proven hunting loads, currently I am loading Sierra 130gr game kings so if you havedata for those that would be sweet.

Re: 270 win loads
If a 270 won't shoot well with 60 grains (work up!) of H4831 or H4831SC under your choice of a 130 grain bullet, you should send it down the road.
Note: might be too much powder for use with Barnes and other monometal bullets.

Re: 270 win loads
60gr is a compressed load I try not to load those, I just don't get the warm and fuzzy with compressed charges. My Lee book says that 60gr of 4831 is the max at 3.28" and Lyman say 58gr is max at 3.25"

Re: 270 win loads
57.5 grains of H4831sc, CCI standard large rifle primer, 130gr Nosler Ballistic tip. I worked up this load about ten years ago for a friend's stock Rem. 700 BDL for whitetail hunting. He loved it then and never looked back.

Re: 270 win loads
Worked up some loads for a friends remington 270 win. a decade or so ago with 130gr Sierras. Notes show 52-54grs IMR4350 worked very well. Have had good results with IMR4350 in 06 cases. Just a tad slower than H414 on the burn rate charts. Side note, was just trying to be helpful to him, but have stopped doing any reloading for others. However am open to introduce others to handloading.
It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.

Re: 270 win loads
I am using almost the same load as CENTERMAST but I use IMR 4831 for a 760 gamemaster.

Re: 270 win loads
H4831 is one of the best powders for the 270. It does respond well to mild compression. Ball powders are the ones that can get "squirrelly" when you compress it.
I load most of my rifles to have the bullet about .010" off the lands assuming it still fits the magazine and there is at least about one bullet diameter of bullet seated in the neck. The Lord Bless You

Re: 270 win loads
Seating off of the lands. I dont remember how far; when I started reloading for his rifle, I bought a bullet seating die just for his loads and keep it in its own box so I wouldnt have to change the seating depth on my die everytime I would change from reloading his .270 to mine or another friends'.

Re: 270 win loads
I agree. I've really only worked up loads for about 5 different .270s. They weren't all the same make or barrel length but H4831sc seemed to be the powder they liked the best with 130 and 140gr bullets. IMR4350 was probably a close second.
